Medical Translation and its Relationship to Legal Translation
In nearly every country, Medical malpractice premiums have been rising for years and all medical workers, including language translators are concerned. According to one Japanese Translation worker, “We are all aware that the number of Medical malpractice lawsuits continue to grow as well as the cost of a quality defense and insurance.” As medical workers leave the industry, other workers including Medical Translation workers, continue to work live in a world of fear and panic. At the same time, worker shortages are keeping pregnant women from seeing obstetricians, fortunes are wasted on defensive medical practices, and angry medical workers are protesting. As a result, many medical workers, including medical Japanese can no longer pay for it, or refuse to purchase medical malpractice insurance, or have left their positions as a result. Over this time, there has increasingly been a significant union in the medical and legal fields have developed into an entirely new specialty. Since then, the emergence of medical law as a discipline has emerged and created widespread panic among health care workers throughout the United States. With medical malpractice insurance premiums soaring out of control along with frivolous litigation and runaway juries, many health workers have left the business. New studies indicate that healthcare inaccessibility may be linked to the number of medical personnel and support personnel like German Translation workers leaving the industry due to panic attacks brought on by the potential of medical malpractice or the inability to pay for insurance. But who are the real victims of medical malpractice? It tends to be the medical staff who are increasing leaving the careers due to stress of potential malpractice lawsuits and patients who suffer from higher medical expenses. One means of combating the rise of malpractice is to subject the patient to a battery of expensive and needless test. This technique is usually referred to as defensive medicine because it protects medical personnel from being sued. As a family physician that has passed the state bar exam, I am often invited to speak to different associations throughout the country about this issue. While nobody in the medical community is free from the risk that malpractice represents, it has a tendency to involve those with their own companies. In my Legal Translation practice, my translation workers must navigate the same treacherous medical legal waters as other health care providers. I consider myself having expert knowledge in the field due to my experience and that’s why I am often called upon to give presentations. Three weeks ago, Children’s Hospital in Houston approached me about writing an article about malpractice issues in the medical field. It is really amazing that in a decade medical malpractice has grown in such importance that Universities would be calling me to give presentations about it. Today it seems strange to read a medical publication and not see a story on Medical Translation or Legal Translation in the health care field.While it is the opinion held by medical workers, new tort reform must be enacted that will make it harder for misguided patients and their lawyers to sue. Everyone including Physical therapists, Physical therapy assistants & aides, Physician assistants, Registered nurses, Respiratory therapists and more should be instructed on the body of laws that cover health care. However, no time should be wasted in establishing an effective response because more bad news that condemns the medical community will likely emerge.
