Property management: more difficult than feeding sharks
I used to think my job was hard. That is until I met a property manager. You see, my job is to accompany oceanographers out into the ocean when they go on shark feeding expeditions. We do that a lot to see how close the sharks will come to a person to get food without actually harming the person. So you can see why I thought I knew a little something about dangerous and hard work. But when I met this guy, my world turned upside down.
We had this conversation that made me realize that my job is actually child’s play. I asked him what the hardest thing about his job is, to which he replied that is when he has to knock on a tenant’s door and break the news to them that they are late on their rent so they are being evicted. I can’t imagine that kind of pressure. What if they punch you in the face? What if they pull a gun? At my job, at least you know you are going in knowing that you will get eaten alive if something goes wrong. There’s no waiting to know what your fate will be. I like it that way.
He did tell me that one positive thing about his job is that they just got some new software for property managers. He tells me that property management software is like the equivalent of the cord that connects me to the boat when I’m on a shark trip. So it must be pretty neat stuff.
